Beneficial Bacteria

Why are Bacteria good for health ?

Although when we hear the word “bacteria” we tend to instinctively think about unhealthy germs,
bacteria are essential to life and most of them are actually good for us.
A healthy digestive system alone carries between 300 and 1,000 species of bacteria and they are here to help us digest our food,
support our immune system, fight infections and diseases and the list goes on.

Most consumers are now aware of the benefits…

… of specific strains of probiotic bacteria found in yogurt and of the benefits they provide in maintaining a healthy gut; but fewer know, for example, that Lactobacillus bacteria are considered to be the gatekeepers of the vaginal ecosystem, inhibiting the growth of some pathogenic microorganisms and preventing long-term colonization. These are only a few examples on how probiotics, which are defined by the World Health Organization as “live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host”, can be beneficial to our health.

As for yeasts,

the health-benefits of bacteria are strain-specific, meaning that, of two different strains of the same species, one may offer a health benefit while the other does not. In this context, thorough research and solid scientific evidence it paramount.

Lesaffre Human Care understands this and makes a point of consistently investing in providing strong scientific and clinical data to substantiate the benefits of its ingredients.

Although digestive health is probably…

… the benefit that consumers are the most aware of, probiotic bacteria are moving beyond this sector and entering new categories with reported positive effects on mood and cognitive health, obesity, inflammation, sports performance and recovery, skin health, etc.

Lesaffre Human Care is committed to expand its offering beyond immune health and digestive health with new bacteria ingredients once they pass scientific validation.
